The saints in unison radio hour is a weekly hour long journey into the world of electronica and music from beyond. We play an eclectic mix of music that ranges from everything electronica both old and new along side thoughtfully curated tracks from independent artists.
Background and conception
Over the course of the last year, we have managed to record, engineer, and produce four albums of original songs. We decided early on to only promote our tracks organically and mostly by word of mouth. We have gotten some radio airplay locally on a station called WNCW which has been wonderful. That was achieved by sending old fashioned CD's to that station and contacting the music director. Long story short, we got a few airplays on their electronica show and just recently airplay during one of their morning shows. We got several Shazams from these broadcasts which was very exciting but still the overall numbers are low.
We also have gotten some radio airplay in the UK from Radio Wigwam and Amazing Radio USA/UK on a few of our tracks which was equally exciting. However all of the other promoting we have done organically such as emailing college radio stations and sending out CD's to Sirius XM, World Cafe, and even DJ's that have played our tracks yielded nothing in terms of driving traffic to Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, etc. or even getting more airplay. We have done the same with other internet radio stations.
Although we oppose platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X we had hoped to gain fans that might promote us organically by proxy but that also hasn't materialized. Look we get it, everyone is busy and we are but a tiny fish in a huge sea of music. We also are competing with other forms of entertainment and everyday distractions. What does an independent artist do?
We got this bright idea earlier this year to start our own radio station when were completing "lost in tokyo". There are many great platforms out there to support this effort that include mechanical licenses for playing any tracks. We found that the time commitment and the cost were too prohibitive. Then the light bulb went off! We had been played on several shows like SYNTHscape, Indie Jukebox, Amazing Beats, and Eclectic Electric (WNCW) so why couldn't we have our own show? Call it serendipity but right around the time we starting "kicking the tires" on the concept, Radio Wigwam contacted us about doing a "takeover show" in which we could play ANYTHING we wanted. We then made the decision that this was the way to go. Our first episode included a few tracks from artists that influenced our sound but the rest were our material.
After recording the first episode, we decided to make this a weekly broadcast dedicated to promoting independent artists we have curated from Bluesky. Although we oppose social media, we have found a home on Bluesky and have really enjoyed the experience thus far. The idea is that we help promote independent artists while we promote our music at the same time. They tell their fans and spread the word and we all hopefully will build our respective (or mutual) fan bases. We listen to tracks of our followers, provide our feedback, and then contact the artists directly to get their permission to use their songs. This is a labor of love for us and we do it to give back to the music community.
Show Format
The show is approximately one hour in length and is fully produced with tracks and visuals for each song. We have been using Bandcamp to live stream the prerecorded show and will typically repeat the broadcast as an encore for those who might have missed the original start time. We also upload each episode to Youtube a day or two after the live stream replay window has ended.
The show is hosted by saint and typically is three sets of tracks with a bit of commentary about the artists and songs. We like to include stingers/idents for the artists if possible and will include them if time permits. For those of you not familiar with a stinger/ident, it is a short 30 second (or so) recording of the artist introducing the track, themselves, and/or the show.
When we contact an artist for inclusion on the show, we will purchase their tracks from Bandcamp as we like to support independent artists like ourselves.
The mix is very eclectic and you might be surprised at what you'll hear!
