The Deception Double Standard: If AI Gets a Warning Label, So Do You

Clark Rants #115: While collective outrage is nothing new, the passionate crusade against AI-generated music is genuinely surprising. Watching people rally behind petitions to ensure they aren't "fooled" by technology highlights a pretty dramatic overreaction to shifting creative landscapes.

If we are going to mandate "deception warning labels" on algorithmically generated art, then fairness dictates we stamp a permanent warning label on every single human being, too.

The sudden, brutal self-righteousness pouring out of this anti-AI crowd is staggering, especially considering human nature. Humans deceive each other as a matter of course. People lie to their partners, cheat on their exams, fudge their taxes, and manipulate facts daily to suit their narratives. Yet, suddenly, synthetic audio is the ultimate evil, and everyone else is a paragon of absolute truth and virtue.

Before these critics throw stones at code, they need to take a long look in the mirror. If you’re going to demand total transparency from a machine, you’d better be prepared to pull the log out of your own eye—or, in some cases, the stick out of your ass—and acknowledge the rampant hypocrisy driving the outrage.

STOP HATING!
